Goodbye! (For now)

Final Week

My heart is breaking. I can't tell you all how much I've loved my time here at BCSM. I will miss you all and will probably be the overly attached parent that calls just to see how your day was. I'm looking forward to seeing you guys again during the summer! I can't express how proud I am of each of you and all you've managed to accomplish. Don't give up just yet though! There's a whole few months of school left. Please call, text, email, smoke-signal me if you need anything. I would love to help you guys. The end of my time as an intern does not mean that it's the end of my talking to you. I will be here for you guys long after you graduate.

Week 8

Week 8

I can't believe our time is coming to an end. I'll miss you all so much, but luckily I'll be on campus during the summer. Maybe I'll get to take you guys to the Hop (seriously, how do so many of you Not know what the Hop is?). In the meantime, look forward to a pizza party as our last event together. Make sure to start studying now! Your last set of AP exams are coming up sooner than you think. As you start getting college acceptances, it can be easy to forget you're still in high school. Don't let the sense of completion hit you just yet! As a final note for the week, try to find some time after school either at home, or on the bus to think about what you want your dorm room to look like (or if you're planning on staying at home, what you're looking forward to the most for your first year of college).

I'm like the embarrassing parent that doesn't know when to take photos

Week 6-7

Week 7

Our Mid-Winter Break is already over! Luckily, I got to see you guys during the break. Our Starbucks studying was a lot of fun. This week I'm looking forward to helping you guys Finally wrap up financial aid applications. You're almost there! This week will be a little relaxed since we just came back from break and Skedula has been down...so I can't check your grades. Here are some pictures of our Starbucks meeting! In other news, there's a science fair after school on Thursday, and Isabel will have her own table there.

Featuring: Lovtin, Isabel, and Ariela

Week 6

During our break, we had a really great time! After studying at Starbucks, those of us that were still there went over to an interesting Vietnamese restaurant. Following that, we visited a park and had a lot of fun on the swings. Sometimes the best things in life are simple.

Isabel, after she kicked a little kid off the swing. (Just Kidding)

Weeks 1-5

Week 1

Our first week together has come and gone so quickly!

The college office had some soft rumbles of curiosity as one or two of the SEAD students dropped by throughout the first few days. I'm so excited as to what our time together will be like! I didn't happen to catch any photos of them this time (they move so quickly). More updates to come soon as we move through our week.

Week 2

Settled into our second week together, I'm earning more smiles from the SEAD students with food. A congratulations goes out to Lovtin Rivera! His robotics team placed in a competition over the weekend. Soon to come will be our first event! I'm thinking a set of museum visits would be great!
Here we have our first paparazzi shot of Kat and Isabel (beanie) working after school

Week 3

Happy Regents week everyone! The lovely students are now enjoying the benefits of being seniors, and are taking the chance to catch up on some well deserved rest. Here is a photo from Friday's dinner. It was a celebratory event for students who had received college acceptances!

Week 4

Welcome back friends! This week is going to be a little slow as we transition into a new term. Hopefully there are no major scheduling errors. As we submit the last round of college applications and financial documents, you will finally (hopefully) have some sense of peace as you send off the paper airplane and wait to see how it lands. Convoluted metaphors aside, here are some photos of Ariela and Isabel enjoying take out in the library (technically breaking the rules, but hey, it's after school!)

Week 5

I can't believe my time with you guys is already half-way over! To make things even worse, we're leading into a week long break </3
Luckily, we'll have plenty of time to actually do things outside of school. BCSM keeps you guys pretty busy with work, so we'll have to make sure to take advantage of the break. I'm hoping to take you guys to the museum of your choice, the movies, a comic book store (for those interested), and much more! Let me know if you have any ideas as well. Our motto for this week is "Power through". It's important to stay focused this week so that you can fully enjoy your break!

Hey BCSM!

Hello friends!

I’m Manuel Figueroa, and I’ll be the SEAD intern at BCSM for the next few months. I was born in Houston, Texas and have spent most of my life there. I’m a sophomore at Dartmouth, and am studying Government. I’m actively involved in the College’s fencing team, and in my free time I either attend the Computer Gaming Association’s or Student for Education Reform’s meetings. I love to read and enjoy writing as well. When I’m not being boring, I like to cook, watch Netflix, and listen to music.

I’m looking forward to meeting you all (again), and hope that you have tons of questions and enthusiasm for our time together. Senioritis can be very real, but I promise I’ll be the little Kronk on your shoulder (Emperor’s New Groove if you’re not familiar).

I’ll be at BCSM on Monday, January 11th. Come by and see me, say hello! I might have cake

Reunion Reunion Reunion!!!

Hello LoveLies!

In less than 24 hours, we'll be on our way to Dartmouth College for the SEAD reunion! I'm very excited and I know that you are as well. This past week was very hectic as our students prepared for the SAT test, I know that the journey is over for most of you-- how relieving, and for those of you still fighting the battle, rest assured that you're not alone.
At this point you should be fully invested in the college application process; wrapping up your essays and supplements, scheduling interviews and looking at potential scholarships. All of you are exceptionally equipped and qualified for the colleges on your lists and you shouldn't be afraid to put your best foot forward when applying. I'm always here for you so do not hesitate to reach out to me or I will.
I spent some quality time with Katherine and Isabel this past Friday at Ihop! It was such a pleasure to hear so much wisdom from these two. I learn so much from being in their company, from tips on pulling off the grimiest thrift finds to finding the most affordable/yummiest eateries around NYC.
Let me tell you about those buttermilk pancakes and hash browns

In preparation for the Reunion

  • Pack up all the essentials; textbooks, notebooks, laptops, calculators and pretty much all you need to complete your homework/ college apps
  • Get ready for the 20 degrees drop in temperatures (Hanover is brick) ; bring warm clothes
  • Bring something to eat on the bus -- Lays( *Looking at you Isabel*)
What time? : 7:15 AM

Where? : W 33rd St & 11-12th Ave

Precious

Week 8!

Hey Lovelies!

Hope you all had a wonderful and restful weekend! It's hard to believe that this is officially the last full week of my internship -- WOOSAH!
So last Friday, we had a delightful time at the BCSEmmys! It was so great to see the students letting loose and not taking themselves too seriously. The BCSEmmys, hosted by the senior class as a courtesy to the National Honor Society, honors the students who have demonstrated academic excellence and discipline throughout the course of the marking period. Safi was awarded the student of the Month for showing great integrity and scholastic excellence; We're Proud of you Safi!

When thy phone is bum

This past Sunday, the students volunteered at the NYC marathon! The students( the whole BCSM senior class) were out there from 8AM to 5PM! I'm so so proud of you all for showing such great SELFLESSNESS and GENEROSITY!

Yesterday was the school senior picture day! We had a wonderful time afterwards munching down on some delicious donuts as I helped some of the students with their college essays.

 Reminders!!!

The reunion is this coming Wednesday!!! Talk to your teachers before Thursday and ask for any work you'll miss while absent.

The SAT is this upcoming Saturday
For the next couple of days leading up to the test, be productive with your time!

1)Spend the most amount of time on your weakest section.
2)Take one last full-length prep test

 DAY BEFORE!
1)Review your notes and go through your grammar rules
2)Get enough rest, especially on the day before(You don't want to be that person who starts the notorious YAWN CHAIN during the test and you DEFINITELY DON'T WANT TO FALL ASLEEP)
3) Spend enough time on google maps familiarizing yourself with the route to the test center
4) Prepare your materials(2 pencils, a working calculator and your ticket)

DAY OF!
The breakfast strategy
Wake up an hour or two before you need to leave and eat a good and balanced breakfast. Make sure not to overeat or have anything too greasy – more blood will be redirected to your stomach to digest everything, leaving less blood to keep your brain sharp and alert. While you’re eating, do a quick review of your math and grammar rules and then spend some time reading a difficult article.

Don't forget to bring some snacks and a bottle(s) of water.

Last of all;

SeadLove,
Precious
