Drinking Coffee and Eating Empanadas

Thank you so much to the students who came to the Study Session on Saturday at Starbucks!

We had a great time drinking coffee, eating Kennedy's, and doing homework! :)

THANK YOU to all the students, families, faculty, SEAD alums, and friends who came to the dinner last night. We had a great time of fellowship and eating. I really enjoyed getting to meet all of the parents, and I know the SEAD Leadership Team members were happy to see you all.

For those who have questions about college, financial aid, and testing like in the Jeopardy game, let me, Mr. Kurz, or Ms. Henriquez know.

I'm looking forward to meeting with students this week. These next few weeks are going to be super busy with studying for APs and regents, so make sure the students are setting aside time to eat, rest, and stay on top of their work.

Upcoming dates:

APRIL 30th: Morrisania Baseball Game at Crotona Park at 4pm

MAY 8th: Registration for SAT or SAT Subject Tests on June 6th

MAY 8th: AP US History Exam

PS. Here is a tentative calendar for the month of May.

Simone Schmid
BCSM Spring SEAD Intern

Looking ahead....

Hello SEAD folks,

IMPORTANT:

What: SEAD Dinner
Where: BCSM Library
When: 6pm
Why: Fellowship, SEAD III, Senior year preparation, more!
Who: SEAD scholars, students' families, SEAD Leadership Team, and BCSM faculty

Reminder: The dinner is mandatory, so if students cannot attend they must tell me and talk to Jay Davis.

Thank you to the five students who came to the NYC National College Fair! The SEAD students were able to ask a lot of questions to representatives and to find out better where they want to go.

Students need to be meeting with me regularly to discuss grades and future college plans. Also, Mr. Kurz and Ms. Henriquez are looking to hear what people thought of the college fair and where you all stand.

I am here after school every day until at least 4pm to answer college questions and help with tutoring. This Saturday, I will try to host a study session with help on class subjects, SAT prep, AP prep, and Regents testing prep. Look forward to more details soon!

See you all soon,

Simone Schmid

Spring 2015 Intern Introduction

Hello all!

My name is Simone Schmid. I am a sophomore at Dartmouth College, and I will be the SEAD intern during the spring at BCSM. I am from Kansas City, Missouri, but I have relatives who live in both the Bronx and Queens. So, I have been around the city a few times. On campus, I am involved in activities ranging from a Bible study group to club volleyball to tutoring at local elementary schools. I will be majoring in Neuroscience and Spanish. Education has also been a priority of mine because student progression and growth are so important for the future.

I am really looking forward to getting to know you, to establishing positive academic and social practices, to setting short and long-term goals with students, and to preparing the students for the end of high school and the possibilities beyond it.

I will be formally starting on April 13th after spring break. During the spring, some possible activities include going to the movies, doing group dinners, and going on college visits. In order to keep you updated of you all updated, I will be writing posts in this blog. In addition to this communication about events, I am committed to staying in contact with you as well as your student’s guidance counselors and teachers in order to ensure student success.

Looking to the near future, the SEAD program will be hosting a dinner on Monday, April 27th from 6:00PM. The location is still to be determined. It would be great to see many of you in attendance!

During my time at BCSM, I will be stationed in the College Office with Ms. Henriquez and Mr. Kurz, and I will be available through the school day. Please feel free to contact me with concerns about activities, academics, and post-high school plans at any time. I can be reached by email during the school day or by cell phone any other time.

I am looking forward to being a part of the continuing progress that Erika and Sarah have started this year. I can’t wait to see the success of your student!

SEADlove,
